PostPosted: 07.11.2018 - 18:55    Post subject: Software development on the Amiga with Nim Quote

Nim is a pretty young, MIT licensed programming language which allows software development with a pretty simple syntax. The language is available for Windows as well as UNIX compatible systems like MacOS, Linux or FreeBSD.

One of the benefits of Nim is the ability to translate Nim code into C, C++ or JavaScript. Nim allows software development in one of the three supported, so-called high-level programming languages without actually coming into contact with its syntax.

The user "betajaen" describes in the English Amiga Board (EAB) how to develop software for the AmigaOS using the Nim language and the free and also for AmigaOS available C compiler VBCC. First the Nim transpiler translates its code into C and then the result can be compiled by VBCC either on the PC or transferred to the Amiga to compile it there. The compiled Amiga binaries can then be tested on the PC using an Amiga emulator.

betajaen has ported really small parts of the AmigaOS 3.9 NDK to Nim for testing purposes and made the archive available for download in the EAB thread. According to his own words, it is nothing official yet, especially since large parts of the NDK still need to be ported.
