Sometimes people can wonder what's wrong with today's computer gaming experience, most argue that there isn't anything wrong with it. But for the pleasant few, today's gaming is all repetition and 'all about the graphics', making for very little variety in game 'genres'. You have your senseless beat 'em ups, your 'solider of war' games chock full of realistic up-to-date weaponary, while massive franshises work around improving their graphics and not much else. Granted, there ARE exceptions.
What I liked about the good old days was the variety of games. Games like Helter Skelter are so bizarre they cannot be put into a genre, or a catagory easily. Bizarre, yet fun and very original!
Basically, you are a big bouncing ball on multiple kaleidoscopic levels, intent on squashing the bad guys that move around there. Of course there's a catch; you must squash the nasty with the yellow arrow over his head, because hit the wrong one and that enemy will duplicate! The nasties must be squashed in the right order within the time limit for success.
Unfortunately for you, the controls are troublesome, and bouncing the ball around the stages properly takes a lot of practice! Especially when your surrounded by nasties with no arrow above their heads! Sound is quite funny, fitting with the bizarre look of the game, while the graphics are neat; the levels are designed often with bright, often jarring colours, zig-zags and swirls, adding to the psychological tension!
Timing is everything in this crazy, unique title. Highly recommended, so long as you can master the controls, plus the co-op two player mode is fiendishly addictive!
