"War has only been this much fun once before!"
How true that last statement is in reference to this game! War has only been this much fun once before, and that time was Cannon Fodder 1. The first was such a success that Sensible Software was compelled to create another, staring the all famous Jools, Jops and Stu!
However, in the light of the original, I feel this title falls into shadow in several areas. Although the main theme has had a brilliant boost, giving the game a great comical sense of war time, the graphics have not changed, the control system hasn't changed, the in game sound hasn't changed and over all it is merely an addon to the original.
Now many will say that that is a good thing, and for the most part, I agree. To jump straight into a game and know exactly what you are going is highly liberating and fun, but my ultimate view is different as I didn't start with CF1 first! A friend of mine boasted about CF and so I went out and got CF2, but unfortunately CF2 was trickier, longer, and I feel, less 'fun'.
Cannon Fodder 2 has a lot less vehicles and a lot less realistic levels. I am not sure what compelled Sensible Software to have Jools and co battle aliens onboard a mothership, or medieval knights with bazooka weilding wizards! Was it just 'new ideas' or was it the dumbing down of war-violence for selling to the masses?
Whatever it was, the final product is not as good - or as classic - as the original.
